#1 What do I need to know to use the app?

You need to know what year you're testing, the date you entered the AF, the date you sewed on your current rank, points for medals, scores (1 - 5) on your EPRs, last year's cutoff, and if you're testing for SMSgt or Chief, an estimated board score.  If you've already tested for SMSgt or Chief, you can use last year's board score for the board score.

#2 What testing year do I use if I'm testing out of cycle?

Even if you're testing out of cycle, use the test year you'd normally use if you tested during the normal test cycle. For example, if you would normally test in 2013, but you tested out of cycle in 2014, use 2013 for the test year. That will give you accurate points for Time-in-Service and Time-in-Grade.

#3 Why doesn't the score change for EPRs or for the final score if I'm testing for MSgt, SMSgt, or CMSgt?

The promotion process doesn't use EPR scores when calculating overall scores for promotion.  The board score you receive will be used in place of EPR scores when the final calculation is made for your overall score.

#4 If I get to the end and see my final score then I go back and change a value, why is the final score some extremely high (or negative) number?

If you go back using the "back" button, you have to re-enter all the data on the subsequent screens to correctly calculate the new final score.

#1 How does the Speed, Time, Distance calculator work?

The speed, time, distance calculator determines what info you give it and calculates the rest of the data based on that.  For example, if you give it statute miles and time, it will calculate your speed in mph, populate that field, and then populate the nautical information after it converts it from standard values.

After the initial calculations are done and you reuse the speed, time, distance calculator, the app will look for any values you change, recalculate the data, and repopulate the fields.

Note: Just change the value(s) you need to change for recalculating new data after the first time you use it. There's no need to change anything else.  The other fields will change based on the new calculated values.  Leaving a field empty will reset the empty field to the previous value used in that field.

#2 Should I use nautical miles per hour, kilometers per hour, or statute miles per hour values?

It doesn't matter as long as you're consistent with the standard you're using.  For example, if your speed is in statute miles per hour, make sure your distance value is also in statute miles; if your speed is in kilometers per hour, make sure your distance value is in kilometers.

#3 How do I get the groundspeed for use with the descent rate and begin descent modules?

Use the distance travelled and the time from your last leg to calculate your groundspeed in the groundspeed module of the app first, then use that value in the descent rate and begin descent modules.
